Regulatory Demand Index

Which compliance obligations are actually creating pressure right now, measured across public company filings rather than asserted by anybody.

Data measured , page built 22 September 2026 at 16:10 UTC. Filing data pulled from EDGAR 22 September at 15:37 UTC, less than an hour ago.

The structural view

Phrase frequency across 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K filings over the last ninety days, against the same window a year earlier. Year on year rather than quarter on quarter because filing volume is seasonal: annual reports cluster in the first quarter, so a quarterly comparison shows every theme collapsing afterwards regardless of what is happening. Blue is rising, red is cooling.

This fortnight

The same measurement across 8-K filings only, fortnight against fortnight. An 8-K must be filed within four business days of the event it discloses, so this is what companies are telling the market right now rather than what they wrote in an annual report. Compared over a fortnight because 8-K volume is driven by events, not by filing season.

How this is measured

Every number here is counted, not estimated. You can reproduce any row of it.

Source
SEC EDGAR full text search, across all public company filings.
Method
Exact phrase frequency, counted per filing, over fixed windows.
Comparison
Annual view is year on year to control for filing seasonality. Fortnightly view is period on period, since 8-K volume is event driven.
Filers
Taken from the filing metadata. No inference, no estimation.
What it is not
Not a forecast, not investment advice, and not a claim about severity. A phrase appearing more often means more companies chose to write it down.

Where this comes from

The Art of Service maintains a corpus of 723 compliance frameworks and 20,473 controls, with 531 frameworks verified against their source documents and 332,959 cross-framework mappings. This index is a by-product of keeping that current.
